I came to the United States at the age of 6 months and moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, at the age of 2. Growing up in what was then the countryside north of Philadelphia, I took pictures of things around me whether it was at home or on vacation trips. Just after graduating from college I bought my first SLR (a Konica TC- a great camera!) and, by the mid-80’s, had a couple of camera bodies and a small collection of lenses. By the mid-90’s I had bought a Mamiya medium format camera. The local community college had a great photography department and, in the fall of 1999, I enrolled, finally, in a Basic Photography course that taught me how to develop and print black and white film. The next semester I was captivated by a large format photography course and I have enjoyed that ever since, concentrating on nature and landscape photography. I went on to take several more courses and repeated the large format course several times and always learning something new from the professor, Vincent Feldman. Â I continue to print in my own darkroom with two enlargers, chemistry trays, and many assorted bits of peripheral darkroom stuff.
I still live in Bucks County, now a very different place from 55 years ago. After some years in other professions, I decided that my unhappiness with corporate America meant I would have to work on my own and have chosen to pursue photography. Outside of photography my principal interests are my family, traveling, and concern for the well-being of the natural world. Nature and landscape photography can bridge these interests nicely.
I am a member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA). My photographs have won awards while participating in shows as far away as California, including getting an image into a NANPA show in 2015 (see the New England gallery for “Cape Elizabeth Ice Triangle”). Â I participated in the NOVA Galaxy Show for many years and co-chaired Phillips Mill Photographic Exhibition for three years.
